Gulftech news update: 4/24/03
The Calema Midwinters kicked off the start of the 2003 racing season earlier this March, with the first big  race of the year. Six races were run in shifty light winds with the majority of the competitors staying on their largest sail size for the whole event.

Ten of the top fourteen  racers in the world showed up to test out their new Formula equipment for the upcoming racing season. One of them was our boy, pro racer Devon Boulon,  sporting his new Windwing sails and Gulftech masts and booms for the first time.  Joining him were WindWing and Gulftech's other top US racers Mike Percy and Alf Imperato.

All three combined to  prove that Windwings's new Formula R sails are right up there pushing the limit to be the fastest race sails on the market. The new Gulftech Maximum booms also  received a huge response from all the competitors around the race  site.

There was a lot of hot racing in all divisions. Because it was the first time out on new equipment for  several of the competitors, many of the racers were tuning their gear between and during races. By the end it was clear that everyone enjoyed themselves all the way around for a good weekend of exciting racing.

New mast models added for 2003!

Hot off the press, (and soon to be added to our website) Gulftech is announcing 3 new mast models for 2003.

First, and most exciting, is the new Needle 60, a reduced diameter mast with a 60% carbon content. This mast is less than a pound heavier than the current Gulftech needle, but it comes in at a really affordable price. Starting at $280 MSRP, the 370 weighs in at only 3.4 lbs! Compare that with masts that cost hundreds more!  This is a great mast for people who have wanted to make the switch to skinnies but were put off by the cost. Available in sizes 370, 400, and 430 only.

Next is another price beater - Regular diameter G-55. This price point mast starts at only $240 MSRP, has a 55% carbon content, and has Gulftech’s super accurate bend and finish. Sizes are 370, 400, 430, 460, and 490.

And finally, the slalom mast, the G-75.  Nearly as light as our race-proven G-100, the G-75 is slightly more affordable and has a little more durability for jumping. We had a few of these around last summer and in Maui, and they are really nice, responsive masts that make any sail work it’s best. Sizes are 370, 400, 430, 460, and 490.

All of the new masts will be available in April of ’03, and headed to a Gulftech dealer near you, or direct from Gulftech for those of you without dealer service. Call 541-386-7235 or email info@gogulftech for more.

New Maximum boom in Maximum demand.

The new Gulftech Maximum Race boom has made it’s debut, and so far the reviews are a rave. Team Rider Devon Boulon has been testing this boom in the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, and his new Maximums are the envy of all of his training partners!  The Maximum is a totally serious race boom designed for the huge race sails being used all over the world today. The range on the new Maximum is 250-310cm, it is incredibly stiff, and has a really nice “egg shaped” ergonomic grip. Suggested retail in the US is $895, check with your Gulftech dealer or call or email Gulftech for more info.

Alf Imperato joins Gulftech

Former Olympic candidate and racer of extraordinary repute Alf Imperato has joined the Gulftech race team, and plans to compete at the Calema Midwinters on Gulftech masts, booms, and bases. Imperato will also be helping out in R&D, and will train on Maui with international Gulftech racing star Devon Boulon.

“It will be great to have Alf to test with,” said Boulon. “You can learn so much more when you have another high-caliber racer to do side-by-side comparisons. It’s really the only way to learn anything.”

Imperato will also compete in select races throughout the ’03 season, check back for more details.
